Metal Hose and Assemblies

Flexible metal hoses are known by several terms including stainless steel hoses, braided metal hoses, flex hoses, metal flex hoses, flexible metal hoses, flex lines and more.

Our MATCHLESS Corrugated Metal Hoses are designed as general all-purpose hoses for conveying liquids and gases, usually at high temperatures and pressures, while maintaining flexibility.  Stainless metal hoses are often used for the transfer of chemicals such as ammonia and sulphuric acid.

Braiding of metal hoses enables use at high pressures and attenuates vibration.  Each annular corrugation is a separate element engineered to impart optimal flexibility for each size of hose we offer.

Stainless Steel Hose and Braid from 1/4″to 12″ I.D. in stock
Standard NPT, JIC, SAE, Metric, JIS Ends 150# to 300# Plate and Raised Face Flanges
Single or Double Braid Available in 304, 321, 316 steel.

GENERAL PRODUCTS

Corrugated Metal Hose (braided/unbraided)

Corrugated Metal Hose is generally used for flexing and vibration, while conveying liquids and gases.  The metal wire braid provides the assembly with higher pressure capability by acting as a restraint against hose elongation and acts to dampen vibration

FLEX CONNECTORS

Flex Connectors are primarily designed for installation in pump suction and discharge lines to prevent damage to equipment caused caused by vibration and pipe misalignment.

JACKETED HOSE ASSEMBLIES

Jacketed Hose Assemblies are generally used to heat fluids which are normally viscous at 70°F.  Assemblies use the jacketed section to carry steam or hot oil to raise the temperature of the fluid moved in the internal hose, thereby lowering the viscosity and permitting uninterrupted material flow.  Jacketed hose assemblies are made up of two flexible hose units, one inside the other.

CONVOLUTED PTFE HOSE

Convoluted PTFE Hose is generally used for chemical transfer, petroleum transfer and pump connection applications. The hose has a heavy inner core wall of convoluted natural PTFE or black static dissipating conductive tube, with stainless steel or polypropylene outer braid.

Our durable Metal Hoses are used in a large array of applications including some of the following:

  • Fuel Cell Hoses

Fittings:

We offer a wide range of fittings to use with our metal hose assemblies.  Almost any fitting can be attached to corrugated metal hose.  Welding or brazing must be compatible with the metals used.

Our annular metal hose pump connectors are available in many different sizes, alloys and configurations. Our Matchless metal hose is ideal for absorbing vibration, misalignment, piping expansion or contraction and equipment motion. Braiding enables use at high pressures and attenuates vibration.  Each annular corrugation is a separate element engineered to impart optimal flexibility for each size of hose that we offer.

Other hose alloys are available for special service applications.  If a hose application requires a less flexible product, an open pitch configuration may be used.

Our flexible pump connectors are manufactured with a 321SS Corrugated Hose, and 304SS braid.  Standard constructions are available in Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel Male NPT fittings as well as Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel #150 flanges.  Flanges supplied are flat face.  Other configurations of metals and sizes are available.  We have the flexibility to customize any ends or hose combinations to your specified requirements.  Please contact us for questions regarding pricing and availability.

Annular: A Hose profile that is designed so each convolution is a separate circle or ring.

Braid: Woven wire cover placed over hose which prevents elongation of the hose and permits higher working pressure.

Close Pitch: More corrugations per foot which renders the longest fatigue life and minimum bend radius.

Constant Flexing Bend Radius: The minimum radius to which a hose can be repeatedly bent and render satisfactory flexure life.

Constant Motion: Motion that occurs on a regular cyclic basis at a constant travel.

Fittings: Parts attached to the ends of metal hoses so that they can be connected to other components such as flanges, unions, nipples, etc.

Flow Velocity: When the flow velocity exceeds 75 ft./second liquid, 150 ft./second gas in braided hose, a flexible metal liner should be used.

Intermittent Motion: Motion that occurs on an irregular cyclic basis.

Maximum Test Pressure: The maximum pressure a hose assembly should be subjected to for testing purposes.  Based on 150% of the Maximum Working Pressure.

Media: Conveyant in a hose assembly such as gases, liquids, etc.

Operating Conditions: Temperature, Pressure, Media, Motion and Application involved.

Random Motion: Uncontrolled motion that occurs usually from manual handling of hose.

Rated Burst Pressure: Pressure at which hose can be expected to fail. Braid will normally fail before core burst.

Safety Factor: Difference between working pressure and rated burst pressure.

Shock or Pulsating Pressure: Shock, pulsating or surge pressure can cause premature failure of hose.

Static Bend: Minimum center bend radius to which flexible metal hose may be bent for installation.

Vibration: High frequency, low amplitude

Working Temperature: Temperature to which hose will be subjected during operation

To help determine the best type of fitting for the application, remember to utilize the S.T.A.M.P.E.D. acronym for proper hose selection.
